Singapore has updated its H2 Chemistry syllabus from 9647 to 9729. The 9729 syllabus introduces updated topics, a revised paper structure, and greater emphasis on applications of chemistry. Students sitting A Levels from 2026 onwards are examined under 9729. If you or your tutor is still using materials from the old 9647 syllabus, be sure to update accordingly.

H1 Chemistry Syllabus 9476 — Overview (2026)

H1 Chemistry (9476) covers a subset of H2 topics and is taken by students who do not need the full H2 depth. It includes:

• Physical Chemistry: Atomic structure, bonding, energetics, equilibria, reaction kinetics
• Inorganic Chemistry: The Periodic Table, Group 2, Group 17
• Organic Chemistry: Introduction, hydrocarbons, halogen compounds, hydroxyl compounds, carbonyl compounds

Paper 1 (1 hour, 30 marks) — MCQ

Paper 2 (2 hours, 80 marks) — Structured and free-response
